English Support

English Support

What is EAL?
Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme offers support for students who are new to English in the form of additional  small group or  individual learning, both during lessons and in pull-out sessions. The programme prepares students with the skills to listen to, speak, read and write English proficiently in all areas of student life.

When will my child learn English?
Children are immersed in an English-speaking environment from the moment they join the school. They take part in daily English lessons in class and, if needed, are given additional EAL support by a specialist teacher who both assists in the normal lessons and teaches small group or one-to-one sessions.

Who teaches English?
All of our teachers are language teachers, as language development is essential in every element of learning. The class teacher teaches daily English language lessons and  specialist EAL teachers provide targeted support for students who are new to English.

What are the MSF languages?
In the Primary School,  students learn predominantly in English. However, German is also taught on a daily basis by German teachers.

When will my child be fluent?
Students develop fluency at different rates, usually dependent upon the level of interest and participation. Most of our EAL students  graduate from the support program after 12 months with a level of English fluency that allows them to participate successfully in their normal class
