IGCSE

Our Secondary School programme consists of Grades 6 through 12. MSF students in Grades 6 – 10 are taught the Cambridge International Examination IGCSE curriculum and are prepared for the IGCSE examinations in Grades 9 and 10. These examinations provide a sound basis for the IB Diploma, a globally-recognised university entrance qualification.

Metropolitan School Frankfurt offers a broad range of IGCSE subjects:

  • English (First Language, Core and Extended)
  • English (Foreign Language)
  • German (First and Foreign Language)
  • French (Foreign Language)
  • Spanish (Foreign Language)
  • Coordinated Science (Core and Extended, Double Award)
  • Mathematics (Core and Extended)
  • History
  • Geography
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Business Studies
  • Computer Science
  • Art and Design
  • Music
  • Drama

The IGCSE covers key elements of the relevant German Sekundarstufe I and II. Successful completion of the IGCSE examinations is considered by Hessen as equivalent to the Realschulabschluss.

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is a challenging two-year curriculum, leading to a widely- recognised university entrance qualification valued by the world’s leading universities.

Our 2023 graduates’ average score was 37 points; the highest score was 41 points out of 45.

The DP curriculum is built upon six subject groups together with the “DP Core” made up of three separate parts, CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), ToK (Theory of Knowledge) and EE (Extended Essay), each with a range of integrated approaches to learning.

The subjects currently offered by Metropolitan School Frankfurt are:

Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature: English Language and Literature, German Language and Literature

Group 2: Language Acquisition: German B, Spanish B, French B

Group 3: Individuals and Societies: History, Geography, Business Management, Environmental Systems and Societies

Group 4: Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Systems and Societies (SL), Computer Science

Group 5: Mathematics: Mathematics AA SL and HL / Mathematics AI SL and HL

Group 6: The Arts: Music, Drama, Visual Arts

Students select one subject from each of the six subject groups. Three are studied at Higher Level (HL) and the remaining three subjects are studied at Standard Level (SL). At the end of the two-year programme, candidates are assessed both internally and externally in each subject.

The IB Diploma covers key elements of the German Sekundarstufe II and offers equivalence to the German Abitur. This equivalence is subject to certain criteria being fulfilled. Metropolitan School Frankfurt is committed to providing complete transparency, ensuring that students wishing to pursue university study in Germany complete the relevant requirements for the IB Diploma.
